How to sell out a virtual seminar

I spent yesterday with Jared Spool and the team at UIE for their virtual seminar on Search and Discovery Patterns, given by the great Peter Morville and Endeca’s own Mark Burrell.
Turned out to be a hot topic — it went Avatar and sold out. (If you’ve ever heard Jared speak — and I hope you have — you can imagine his commentary on how a virtual seminar can sell out.) With an average of five people listening at each company that signed up, we had about 1000 people tuned in.
If you don’t have time for the replay, there’s a solid synopsis on the tweet stream at #UIEVS.
One of the most interesting discussions that emerged was on the relationship between search and browse. I’m still surprised that people see them as separate. That’s what happens when you look at software features instead of user tasks. When you start with the user task — discovery — then search and browse are clearly part of the same system. Livia Labate has a good follow-on discussion.
